Innovation for growth

Starbucks Philippines will push sustainability and digital innovation initiatives that will help give back to the planet while enhancing its customer experience.

Starting June 23, a seamless integration with Starbucks Rewards will allow customers to earn 1 Star for every P40 spent on Starbucks orders. Every 100 Stars collected converts to a free Starbucks beverage or food reward, redeemable in stores.

eGifting is now available through GrabGift and GLife. Starbucks eGifts can be purchased starting at Ph100 on GrabGifts and P300 on GLife. eGifts from GLife can be used to pay in Starbucks stores while eGifts from GrabGifts can be used to purchase orders from Starbucks on GrabFood.

With Starbucks FoodShare through its partnership with Grab, participating stores can connect with Grab drivers to pick up and deliver food donations daily. The donations go to Philippine Food Bank Foundation.

To date, the program has served over 50,000 meals from more than 200 stores.

Under Starbucks’ Global Community Impact Grants, Starbucks Philippines has awarded a total of $70,000 to Gawad Kalinga, HOUSE Foundation, and Teach for the Philippines.

Love for learning

PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF), PLDT and Smart, FiberHome Technologies, and the Department of Education (DepEd) recently turned over three School-in-a-Bag (SIAB) packages to Batangas City schools to help make sure that there will be #NoLearnerLeftBehind.

Each package includes a laptop, a Smart Bro LTE Pocket WiFi, and tablets pre-loaded with #LearnSmart applications and content, for the learning needs of students of Conde Labac Elementary School, Conde Labac Integrated School, and Dumuclay Elementary School.

DepEd Sarangani representatives also shared their innovation called Learning Resource on Wi-Fi Hub for Expanded e-Learning, or LR on WHEeLS, a learning delivery modality developed in Sarangani, and which is now endorsed by the DepEd for nationwide implementation.

The teachers from the Batangas schools were trained on LR on WHEeLS, which uses technology to reach 200 to 500 learners within a 500-meter radius through a digital channel with pre-loaded learning resources that students can access even without the internet.

SIAB is a key part of PLDT and Smart’s broader commitment to help the country achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4: Inclusive Quality Education.

CDC, Korean agency ink MOU for Clark Smart City project

Clark Development Corporation (CDC) and the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to bolster their partnership in developing the Clark Smart City project in this Freeport.

CDC President and CEO Manuel R. Gaerlan and LH Chief Executive Officer Kim Hyun Jun signed the pact for the “Clark Smart City Urban Development Project” during a simple ceremony held at the Clark Visitor’s Center.

Under the MOU, CDC and LH will work together to facilitate and attract potential investments, including but not limited to small and medium-sized firms that will contribute to the smart city project’s implementation.

Both parties also agreed to collaborate on enhancing trade, investment, and tourism activities in this Freeport for the efficient and successful fulfillment of the project. The smart city is envisioned to be developed in an approximately 104.8 hectares prime property within this Freeport.

In his speech, Gaerlan thanked LH for the support extended to CDC and for intensifying the developments in this Freeport.

Meanwhile, Kim expressed optimism on the smart city project and commended CDC for the warm reception and hospitality shown to them during their visit in the Freeport.

The Clark Smart City development is the first project of its kind in the Philippines. It is also expected to serve as a blueprint for future developments in the Clark Special Economic Zone and other surrounding provinces.
